ABOUT US
The St. Charles County Cyber Crime Unit serves St. Charles, Lincoln, and Warren Counties, and all their municipalities. It is staffed by personnel from the
St. Charles County
and
Lincoln County
Sheriff's Departments and the Police Departments of O'Fallon, St. Peters, and Troy, Missouri.
The St. Charles County Cyber Crime Unit is tasked primarily with conducting the forensic analysis of computers suspected to contain evidence of crimes and assisting detectives in conducting investigations in which computers are involved.
The Unit also conducts proactive online investigations aimed at identifying and making viable criminal cases against individuals who prey on children via the Internet.
The Saint Charles County Sheriff's Department created the Computer Forensic Unit in August 2001. This was in response to the increasing number of computer related crimes that began to surface in Saint Charles County. In 2007 the name was changed to the Cyber Crime Unit to better represent all the work the unit does. Between August 2001 and December 2006, the Unit handled 493 request for service.
In August 2004, the Unit received an AVID video analysis system through a Homeland Security Grant. This system is one of
several in the Saint Louis Metropolitan area capable of analyzing analog and digital video.
