Request for Service

The St. Charles County Cyber Crime Unit is tasked primarily with conducting the forensic analysis of computers suspected to contain evidence of crimes and assisting detectives in conducting investigations in which computers are involved.

See below for instructions and links to the following forms:

      • Service Request Form
      • Video Analysis Form
      • Cell Phone Analysis Form
      • Consent to Search Form

Instructions:
Please contact the Cyber Crime Unit to discuss the request and then, based on this information, carefully complete and submit the following forms according to the type of assistance needed:

Service Request Form

Requests for on-site assistance are accepted on a case-by-case basis, regardless of which law enforcement agency in the Cyber Unit's service area made the request. The Cyber Unit prioritizes each case according to the nature of the crime.

For assistance with a search or field examination, submit this form to the Cyber Unit with a minimum of 48 hours to one week in advance. Specify whether a seizure of computers/ media or an on-site examination is required, and include a copy of the search warrant or other legal authority (e.g. consent form) that authorizes the seizure or collection of the digital evidence with the form. The Cyber Unit also uses the Service Request form to monitor and track cases.

Please note that if a field service request is pursuant to a search warrant, a copy of the warrant must be included with the form. Likewise, if the service request is a result of a consensual search, a copy of the agency consent for search form must be included. Failure to include this documentation will cause a delay in processing the request.

Video Analysis Form

When submitting a video for analysis, this form needs to accompany the media in addition to the Request For Service Form. When dealing with video tape do not keep viewing the tape, rewinding it, and/or pausing it. These actions degrade the quality of the tape and make it less likely that any viable images will be recovered. Try to complete all areas of the form so the examiner can handle the request quickly.

Cell Phone Analysis Form

When submitting a cell phone for analysis, this form needs to accompany the phone in addition to the Request For Service Form. Try to complete all areas of the form so the examiner can handle the request quickly.

Consent to Search Form

Training

Any law enforcement agency in the Cyber Unit's service area may ask the Cyber Unit to conduct training for their personnel about the proper techniques to preserve computer and computer related evidence during a seizure. Simply complete a request letter and submit it to the Cyber Unit. Upon receipt, a Cyber Unit official will follow up with the requesting agency.
